CHAIR, EXECUTIVE ADVISORY BOARD
Alan McDonald is the General Manager of Chelsea Green, a professional firm that represents leading brands in office furniture and ergonomic solutions. In 2017 he was elected Chair of the Advisory Board at the Council for International Accreditation of Architecture & Design- CIAAD.
Following a number of years working in the UK furniture market, including being the co-owner of a successful dealership, Alan returned to South Africa in 2009 to cover the Southern African region for Steelcase International. He took a new role in Qatar a year later which eventually led to him joining Herman Miller, where he was responsible for the Middle East & Africa. Six years later, and after fifteen years in the furniture industry, Alan joined Humanscale in September 2015 under the capacity of Managing Director for Middle East and Africa.
Alan was an executive member of the advisory board of the Interior Design department at the American University in Dubai for more than seven years. In recent years he took responsibility for the internship programme. His role was instrumental in the development of the programme analysis report and during the site visit leading to the full accreditation with CIDA. Alan brings to CIAAD his extensive knowledge of the MENA market’s evolution. Alan McDonald participated in numerous local, regional and international academic jury panels for Interior Design senior project evaluation but also for International design competitions where he received several awards of recognition.
Alan is based in Dubai with his wife and 9 year old daughter. Alan is a keen golfer, enjoys travelling and spending time with his family.
